Back to school is just around the corner.  In preparation parents are frantically shopping for all their children’s back to school needs. Something that parents might not be thinking about right now  is what their child is going to need for their lunch. One must have item is shelf milk. I know you may be remember the days when powdered milk was the only “shelf” milk available. Times have changed, and shelf milk is increasingly becoming more popular. I recently received a variety of products from Milk Unleashed for evaluation purposes.

Shelf milk is real milk that has been flash-heated at a higher temperatures (ultra-pasteurization) to eliminate bacteria and then put in Tetra Pak shelf safe cartons. These unique cartons protect the milk from air, light and other contaminants. It stays safe on the shelf without preservatives and is a fantastic way to drink milk on the go. Additionally, the milk is available in a variety of flavors, brands and even has an organic line.  My son is the milk drinker in our house, so he was the taste tester for this review. He thoroughly enjoys flavored milk, so his first choices to try were the chocolate and strawberry milk. I put them in the refrigerator to chill while I took him to kickboxing.

We came home, and he tried the chocolate milk. He honestly liked it a lot. He said it was uncommonly tasty. He also said he could not tell the difference between the shelf milk and the other milk that I buy. Of course after trying the chocolate he went right back to try the strawberry.

His reaction was the same. He actually asked me to start buying it when we go grocery shopping now. I love the fact that the milk tastes terrific and is also loaded with nutrients such as calcium, protein, vitamins and more. I love the fact that the milk can stay on the shelf for months without expiring. The single serving cartons are perfect for school lunches, picnics, camping or suitable for on the go. Additionally the Tetra Pak is eco-friendly which means it is better for the environment.  Instead of packing your child’s lunch with a high sugar fruit drink try switching to a delicious flavored shelf milk instead.
