Spencer and I had the opportunity to visit the Downtown Aquarium last week. We parked in the parking lot across the street from the Downtown Aquarium and parking costs $7. There were plenty of places in the lot to park, but we did go on a weekday in the middle of the day. After you arrive, pay for your tickets and have your bands put on your wrist you walk in, and a person greets you with a camera which takes your photo. You can purchase the photo later after you have gone through the aquarium.

There are several different exhibits within the aquarium. You can watch hundreds of different fish species, sharks,  snakes, birds, otters and even a tiger to name a few things. I certainly love the otter exhibit it is by far my very favorite. I can just watch them play for hours. Spencer’s favorite exhibit is the Tiger. We both can spend a lot of time just on those two things.

Our Favorites:

The aquarium even features a gigantic tunnel where the fish are about you.

It is actually a neat experience to see the fish swim above your head or under your feet. Yes,  in one place they have little spots on the ground where you can see the fish beneath your feet. There are interactive activities including the Stingray Reef touch tank. You can buy food to hand feed the stingrays. The stingrays roll up the side of the pool and eat the food right out of your hand.

Stingray Reef

You can also meet the Mystic Mermaids at the Stingray Reef. The Mystic Mermaids have their own show that you can see while you are visiting the aquarium. We missed the show times while we were there. I would  recommend visiting the show times so you can see the show.

Overall, I honestly like the aquarium it is a place that I would visit regularly if I lived in Denver. However, it is not terribly large, so it doesn’t take a lot of time to go through. I would recommend checking show times, etc. to spend more time there. It is a bit pricey at $18 a person, but they do offer extremely reasonable individual and family memberships. I would certainly buy this for my family. They do provide Ballroom and Banquet facilities,  as well as,   Birthday Parties and other events  To learn more about the Downtown Aquarium and the special events they offer to visit the website and connect with them on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. We visited in the Spring and I was really disappointed with the aquariums itself. I guess I was expecting too much coming from NY. I did love the restaurant though. It is beautiful and the food wasn’t too bad. I live in the Springs so won’t be going back anytime soon myself.

  2. I enjoy visiting aquariums and I think this one would be fun to see. I would like to see that mermaid show too.

  3. Wasn’t expecting to see a picture of a tiger on an aquarium visit. Strange, especially since you note that the aquarium isn’t very large. The price does seem a little high, but it sounds like there is a lot to see (and somebody has to pay the mermaids). 🙂

  4. I love the aquarium. We’ve been pretty lucky to see a couple of great ones too.

My son loves the aquarium!!! He loves everything there is about the under the sea life. He watches the nature and animal planet channel when he fines stuff that deals with fish! I love that he has such a interest!!! I can’t wait to take him back to the one out here!! Great post!!!

  6. You sure do visit some amazing places! Awesome, and I especially like that you added the prices. It’s important to know!

  7. Looks like everyone had alot of fun. We have not been to one in years.

  8. It’s been ages since I have been anywhere like this with the kids. I think it must be time we made a visit. Sounds like you had a great time.

  9. I love aquariums. I haven’t visited one in a while-I think the last one was in Connecticut (Norwalk?). I do not live anywhere near this one but if I did I would be sure to go visit and often!

  10. So cool! I love the otter exhibit! We have an aquarium near us here in South Florida, but I haven’t brought our kids there yet – I think this post has inspired me to take them!

  11. Wow, that looks like so much fun! I love aquariums!
