DIY Elastic Hair Ties for a quick and inexpensive alternative to the pricey hair ties you buy in boutiques.

DIY Elastic Hair Ties
Today I thought I would share a craft with you instead of a recipe for Tasty Tuesday. I am sure by now you have seen the popular hair ties made out of elastic. My little granddaughter has lost about a dozen of those little gems…they are not cheap to buy either. I am pretty handy when it comes to making things myself so I thought I would make some of these myself; they are after all just special elastic that is tied. I started on a hunt to find the elastic, this was actually the hardest part of making these hair ties. I searched high and low to locate the elastic, I finally found it at Hobby Lobby in the sewing section. It is called elastic trim (fold over elastic) and is $2.99 a spool. I used a coupon so I saved a little money getting it. It is super easy to make these hair ties.
Here is what you need:
Elastic Trim
Storage Container-I found a cute glass jar to use (my granddaughter will not have this)

Directions: Cut elastic into 10 inch (you can adjust this to your hair thickness) segments. Tie the bottom and trim elastic on an angle. TADA! That is it! You can cut the elastic into 18 inches and make headbands. It is a super fast, easy and cheap way to make your own.
**I found Hobovian¬†¬†on-line it is great place to buy a lot of elastic for a great price. They have the biggest selection of fold over elastic I have seen, including the sparkly elastic. I made so many hair ties I don’t know what to do with them all now!

  1. This is such a great idea! I have got to make some of these for my daughter (who is always losing hair ties).
