Synopsis: When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Review: This book is tremendously popular and since the movie comes out soon I thought it would be an excellent time to read it. The book follows Clary as she gets accidentally introduced into the mysterious world of Shadowhunters and demons. She meets a mysterious teenage boy and his friends. She soon discovers a secret world that has been hidden for many years. This book was exceptionally good. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it only took me about 2 days to finish, so it was a very fast read. I would’ve given this book 5 stars, but I didn’t like the ending of the book. I thought it was mostly just confusing, and it had been done before. I truly hope the next book is better than this book’s ending, but if it stays the same I will probably not continue this series. This book was overall a terrific book until the last 50 pages or so. I would recommend this book to people who like supernatural and young adult books. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

  1. Other then the fact that no 15 year old would be allowed into a NYC club (or at least I hope not!) –but then this is a fantasy -so anything goes – this sounds like it might be an interesting read from what you have written. I probably will not run out to get it and doubt that I will go see the movie but will think about reading it after I have read what you think about its sequel.

  2. Honestly, fantasy isn’t normally my preferred genre, but this sounds pretty interesting…I’m also intrigued at the ending since it changed your star rating. I agree though, an ending (particularly one that’s over played or not good) can ruin a book altogether). I might just have to pick this one up before the movie comes out!
